THE ROLE

Reporting to: Shift Managers

Department: Operations

  • E1 Starting Salary: £10.42 per hour during probation period (equivalent to basic £20,319 pa)
  • D2 Development Salary: £10.57 per hour (equivalent to basic £20,607.21 pa)
  • D1 Fully Operational Salary: £11.14 per hour (equivalent to basic £21,731.97 pa)
  • *Opportunity to progress to a fully operational grade B1 Team Leader role dependent upon training & development requirements being met.

About The Role
You will perform a range of Operational activities on a three-week shift rotation covering 24 hours per day, 5 days per week (core hours 37.5 hours per week). You will have comprehensive knowledge of Extruded or Crystal Soap Manufacturing/packing technologies and fault-finding abilities to support continuous production performance carried out in a safe, controlled, and efficient manner. The key deliverable of the role is to ensure delivery of the Weekly Production Plan across the factory.

Main Role Responsibilities – An Overview

  • Responsible for the safe and efficient running of production or packing activities in your area, allied with priorities set and agreed with Shift Managers, Plant Controllers and Area Leader, also working with Engineers to deal with any issues as appropriate.
  • Support delivery of the weekly production plan and flagging all urgent issues to the Shift Managers / Plant Controllers/ Area Leader.
  • To ensure all required PPE requirements for your area are being adhered to by you and everyone else on site. To report any unsafe acts or conditions to Area leader for reporting in EHS and ensuring Shift Manager/ HS&E manager are aware of the issue.
  • Ensure all products meet quality specification requirements outlined in the relevant Batch Sheets.
  • Support and deliver feedback during the Daily Boardwalk presentations.
  • To ensure SOP’s and any other training provided are followed correctly at all the time.

Breakdown of role

30% = Responsible for the safe and efficient running of the equipment in your area. You must be an 30% exemplar when it comes to Safe Working Practices (incl. PPE, Incident Reporting etc.). You must report any incidents immediately and support investigations as appropriate.

20% = Support to minimize downtime by working closely with B/C operators and Engineers when 20% required. Also, it is your responsibility to ensure an efficient and accurate handover is completed with the oncoming shift.

20% = Ensure all products meet quality specifications and all required checks/tests are completed as 20% outlined in the BCS (Batch Sheets). It is your responsibility to immediately report any quality issues to Area Leader and ensuring Plant controller and Shift Manager are aware of the issue.

10% = Responsible for the completion of the Weekly Clean Down/Start Up activities and working 10% closely with Engineers to ensure all maintenance activities are completed on time.

10% = Supporting the daily Boardwalk presentations.

10% = To ensure all work activities are covered by an SOP and all procedures are followed at all the 10% time.

SAFETY...

Customer, Safety and Quality focus

  • Identify opportunities that benefit the internal or external customer and be active in improvements implementation.
  • Responsible for reporting any Near Misses, Incident Events and, Workplace Observations to the B1/C1 Operator, plant controller or Shift Manager for recording in EHS.
  • Support accident and environmental non-conformance investigations in your area.
  • Have a full understanding of Process Safety Systems or Auto Batch/HMI requirements in your area as appropriate.
  • Understand and demonstrate through actions the importance of Behavioural Safety.
  • Understand and follow relevant Site Safety Policies & Rules in your area.
  • Understand environmental impacts and the importance of control measures and adherence to them.
  • Understand and comply with site waste management procedures.
  • Support energy and waste reduction activities.
  • Ensure full compliance with all Quality specification requirements outlined in the product Batch Sheets and report/record any non-conformances.
  • Full completion of all Batch Sheets as required.

OPENNESS...

Making things happen

  • Demonstrate urgency and move quickly to implement decisions once they have been made.
  • Focus effort on continuous improvement, work simplification, and the elimination of non-value-added activities by supporting and contributing to Yellow Belt projects in your area.
  • Deliver necessary support to help resolve issues and offer constructive solutions to ensure delivery of objectives.
  • Support for RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and improvement activities: support technical countermeasures to prevent recurrence of Quality Events - this should also extend to maintenance activities.
  • Ensure work area is organised and ready for the oncoming shift and carry out handovers ‘on the job.’
  • To carry out area readiness checks to ensure all parts of the operation are prepared for shift and machine start up.

Building Talent and Teams

  • Responsible for identifying own Training needs and liaising with Safety & Training Coordinator (S&T) Co-Ordinator to close any gaps.
  • Support the creation of Toolbox Talks (TBTs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPSs) to pass on knowledge to colleagues.
  • Keep up to date with newly created Toolbox Talks (TBTs) and /SOPs and log training completion with S&T Co-Ordinator.
  • Attend all planned training sessions and ensure that personal training records are kept up to date.
  • Support completion of training programs on new equipment installations in your area.
  • Support developing training material for a production area as appropriate.
  • Expected to have passed training on all appropriate SOPs and carry out duties as required.
  • Actively support team decisions and challenge team members who don’t; set aside own ideas or preference once choices have been made.
  • Work supportively and cooperatively with people even when under pressure.

ACCOUNTABILITY...

Ownership, Accountability and Responsibility

  • Responsible for ensuring a full and accurate handover with oncoming shift takes place.
  • Responsible for regulating breaks and mealtimes on shift to ensure delivery of production plan.
  • Report own absence to Shift Manager following Absence Procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining professional standards of housekeeping within own area through adherence to all agreed standards.
  • Responsible for supporting GMP improvement activities and ensuring all Weekly Clean Down/ Start-up Check and maintenance activities are fully completed, appropriately logged, and signed off by relevant parties.
  • Be actively involved in the completion of GMP audits and use results to focus improvements on Workplace Organisation.

Skills & Competencies

You will have a proven track record as a Factory Operative with a minimum of 1 years experience!

A Counterbalance Fork Lift Truck Licence is desirable!
